A retired Massachusetts State Police trooper was sentenced Tuesday to three months in federal prison for his role in a high-profile scheme that awarded passing scores on commercial driver’s license tests to applicants who failed or never took them, in exchange for bribes, federal prosecutors said.

Calvin Butner, 64, of Halifax, also received one year of supervised release, including three months of home confinement, according to a statement from US Attorney Leah B. Foley’s office. He pleaded guilty in April 2025 to charges of conspiracy, falsifying records, and making false statements, the statement said.
