GOODYEAR, AZ (AZFamily) — Authorities have discovered the wreckage of a plane that went missing earlier this week in the West Valley.

On Tuesday around 11:15 a.m., Goodyear authorities received a report of a missing pilot who departed from Phoenix-Goodyear Airport in his single-engine plane.

The Federal Aviation Administration then issued an alert, notifying law enforcement, pilots and airports about the missing plane.

A search was launched to find the missing pilot and plane. On Wednesday around 6:30 p.m., Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office helicopter located the wreckage near Ocotillo Road and Bullard Avenue.

The FAA and National Transportation Safety Board say the plane was a Pitts S-1T, and only the pilot was onboard.
