A 25-year-old woman suffered gunshot wounds outside a Bellport home Tuesday night and police are searching for the gunman, Suffolk police said.

Around 10:40 p.m., a man fired three shots from a handgun at a group of people in front of a Provost Avenue residence, police said. The woman was struck twice and the shooter fled the scene, police said.

The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police are searching for the shooter. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Fifth Squad at 631-854-8552 or Crime Stoppers 800-220-TIPS.
