KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The U.S. Department of Education has launched an investigation into four Kansas school districts, including three in the Kansas City metro, over "gender identity" policies that they say violate federal law.
The federal education department said in a statement that it started looking into policies at Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools, Olathe Public Schools, Shawnee Mission School District and Topeka Public Schools after receiving an initial 35-page complaint on June 24 from the Defense of Freedom Institute.
Kansas Attorney General Kris Kobach also sent a letter on the same day reiterating the concerns posed by the nonprofit institute.
