Pictures have captured Edinburgh's Portobello Beach swarmed with sun worshippers as temperatures peaked at 25C in the capital.

The packed beach and promenade saw thousands of people descend on the beauty spot with picnic rugs and swimwear at the ready.

Images taken at the beach show just how busy it was on Wednesday afternoon, with barely any space between groups.

Some were spotted taking a dip in the water as temperatures reached a scorching 25C.

Edinburgh locals and tourists have been making the most of the warm weather conditions over the past few days. The mini-heatwave came at the perfect timing for the sold out Oasis gigs at Murrayfield and the Edinburgh Fringe.

High temperatures are forecast over the weekend with 23C expected on Friday.
