MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. —

A Lake Lure man has been charged after selling a piece of equipment he had been renting, deputies say.

On June 23, deputies say the McDowell County Sheriff's Office was called to a Marion business for property damage and theft.

An employee of the business said that Jerry Dwayne Epley Jr., 46, had rented a piece of equipment and then didn’t return it.

Deputies say the machinery was found in Rutherfordton after it was sold to someone there, with extensive damage estimated at more than $12,000.

Deputies say they charged Epley with felony conversion. Epley was given a secured bond of $7,000.
