SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
It's time to put shovels in the dirt. Finally.
The long-awaited groundbreaking ceremony for the soccer-specific, $175 million stadium for the Sacramento Republic FC will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, in the downtown Railyards.
"We're announcing the groundbreaking, and we're ready to move forward with the stadium," club general manager Todd Dunivant told KCRA 3. "It's been a long time coming. We are so excited to make this a reality for our fans, for the city and finally, to get this over the hump is huge.”
The date of the ceremony carries special meaning. On August 18, 1958, the California Rancheria Termination Act was signed into law, resulting in the loss of federal recognition for Wilton Rancheria and 40 other tribal nations.
