A newly resurfaced clip is drawing attention to Donald Trump’s history of downplaying sexual abuse of minors. In the 2004 radio exchange with Don Imus, Trump discussed the high-profile case of Florida teacher Debra Lafave, who pleaded guilty to statutory rape of a 14-year-old student.
Instead of condemning the abuse, Trump commented on Lafave’s appearance, joked about men wanting to date her, and suggested the boy may have initiated the encounter. “It might have given him confidence, actually,” Trump said.
The remarks, first brought back into the spotlight by The Daily Show in 2016, have resurfaced again alongside another clip from 2012 in which Trump said of male students abused by teachers, “I don’t think they’ve been hurt by it… they’re going around bragging about it.”
