HUNTSVILLE, Ala. ( WAFF ) - The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency announced the sudden passing of K-9 Matyko on Thursday.
ALEA officials said Matyko suffered a medical emergency on Tuesday and died en route to a veterinary hospital in Huntsville.
Matyko began his service with ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division in 2019. In the years since, he served in different parts of the state, most recently in the Decatur/Huntsville area.
Officials credited him with helping keep drugs and firearms off Alabama’s highways.
