AT&T customers affected by two separate data breaches can expect a payout after the telecommunications giant agreed to a $177 million settlement.

U.S. District Judge Ada Brown granted preliminary approval to the settlement funds from AT&T in the amount of $177 million, according to court records filed on June 20. The settlement administration began accepting claims from affected customers on Aug. 4 .

The total settlement amount is split into two funds addressing two data incidents.

The larger portion is in the amount of $149 million for a data incident related to a dataset from 2019 or earlier. In March 2024, AT&T said it discovered that sensitive information of current and former account holders was shown on the “dark web.”
