UPDATE: New traffic patterns have resulted in a permanent speed limit reduction on Cherokee Boulevard.
Between Market Street and the Stringers Ridge Tunnel, the limit has been reduced to 35 miles per hour, according to the City of Chattanooga's transportation division. It was previously a 45 mph zone.
"This reduction was necessitated by alterations in traffic patterns subsequent to the recent resurfacing of the roadway," a city spokesperson stated.
Workers first began resurfacing work along Cherokee Boulevard and Dayton Boulevard (SR 8) late last month.
