Intermountain Medical Center in Murray lost power for about an hour on Thursday afternoon, forcing the hospital to rely on backup generators to power critical lifesaving equipment, a spokesperson for Intermountain Health said.

Shortly before noon Thursday, the center lost power for unknown reasons, spokesperson Jess Gomez told The Salt Lake Tribune. The center immediately re-routed ambulances to other hospitals because to the outage, Gomez said.

“Those on ventilators, intensive care units, surgery; those key clinical areas that are vital for patient care are on backup power, but the full campus is not on regular power,” Gomez said at the time.

He added that the hospital did not send patients already receiving care at the center to other nearby hospitals because of the outage.
