(Reuters) - The Trump administration is in talks with Intel to have the U.S. government potentially take a stake in the chipmaker, Bloomberg News reported on Aug. 14, citing people familiar with the plan.

The company's shares, which closed about 7% higher in regular trading following the report, were last up 2% after the bell.

Intel is in the middle of a $28 billion plan to construct two microchip production facilities in the Licking County portion of New Albany. The project broke ground in 2022 and was originally set to open this year, but multiple delays have pushed back completion to no earlier than 2030 .
