ORANGEBURG, S.C. — State leaders are sharing condolences after the death of South Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper Dennis Ricks , who was killed while on duty.

Ricks died Wednesday night, just over three days after he was injured while responding to a traffic accident on Interstate 26 in Orangeburg County. According to investigators around 2 a.m. on August 10 he was struck during a traffic stop near the 166 mile marker. The driver of that vehicle was charged with driving under suspension.

Ricks, 30, had been in critical condition since the collision.

His wife, Jade Riley Ricks, provided photos of her husband and shared a statement with News19, saying, "Marrying him was the best decision I have ever made in my lifetime. There is no one better for me than him. We were truly meant to be
