NEW YORK (PIX11) – New apartments, including affordable housing, are coming to a busy area of the city.
It's a place where new housing cannot be built because of the zoning regulations.
The New York City council overwhelmingly approved the measure on Thursday. It had gone through a process with the planning commission, local elected leaders, and the community.
The garment and fashion industries, along with local businesses, spoke up to make sure manufacturing will also have a place to call home.
The message is “midtown made” with the announcement printed on some of their shirts at a press conference before the vote.
This is one of five big neighborhood rezonings.
