ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. — A series of photos shows a metal object impaled through the windshield of a car on I-12.

“This could have been way worse,” said Brian Macaluso, Assistant Chief of Fire Prevention, “maybe even 6 to 12 inches could have made a difference.”

He told WWL Louisiana the woman was driving westbound on I-12 on Tuesday afternoon. A vehicle hauling a trailer passed her in the left lane and, as it did, a metal piece of debris came loose. It hit the car’s windshield, punctured the glass, and got lodged in the dashboard.

Amazingly, the woman was not hurt.

The fire department shared the photos on Facebook on Wednesday. The post urged drivers to “secure loose items to prevent possible accidents.”
