NEW ORLEANS — We have a follow-up to a Spotlight we brought you last year.
In 2024, Danette Vincent shared her dream with us. You see, back in Katrina's aftermath, she bought 150 disposable cameras and gave them to dozens of children displaced across several states. As a child, her dad, Dan Vincent, gave her a camera to help her through tough times. So, she knew this would help the young evacuees as well.
“Now you're in a place where you don't know the kids. You're in hotels. You're in places that you can't even connect. You can't even get red beans on a Monday. You can't go to your grandmother's house. What we love was totally destroyed. It's like I'm lost. So, I know they got to be lost,” remembered Katrina survivor Danette Vincent, 65, who is now a tax auditor in Texas.
