BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A woman charged with murder in the death of her 3-year-old foster son is scheduled for trial next month.

A trial date of Sept. 29 was set Thursday for 33-year-old Margaret Eichhorst, who's also charged with assaulting a child under 8 resulting in death. She faces a life term in prison if convicted.

On Feb. 9, 2024, deputies were dispatched to the 500 block of El Tejon Avenue and met Eichhorst, the reporting party, who told them foster son Alejandro Perez Jr. wasn’t breathing, according to sheriff's reports filed in Superior Court.

The boy had bruises and cuts to his face and body, according to the court documents. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
