ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A new study is projecting a rise in uterine cancer cases and deaths in the United States.
By 2050 doctors project uterine cancer cases will rise by about 50% in black women and about 29% in white women.
Gynecologic oncology surgeon Dr. Premal Thacker said less and less women are getting routine check-ups with their gynecologists.
“Economics is a real problem. Financial issues occur. That is one of the things Medicare has made it problematic because they’re saying if you have always had normal routine gynecologic issues then you don’t need the well women exam and that exam is when doctors get an opportunity to talk to their patients and ask those specific questions,” Dr. Thacker said.
