A Westford man died Thursday after being pulled from the water at a lake in New Hampshire, authorities say.

Jack Bilodeau, 81, was swimming at Lake Winnisquam near Mohawk Island in Tilton at 11:35 a.m. when he was seen having a possible medical event, according to New Hampshire State Police. Police believe he may have been swimming after his drifting boat.

Bilodeau went under the water briefly before he was pulled out by a “good Samaritan” who continued trying to save him once on shore, police said. Once first responders arrived, Bilodeau was brought to Concord Hospital-Laconia, where he was pronounced dead.

Bilodeau’s death is under investigation, and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Marine Patrol Officer Bryant Tarr at 603-293-2037 or bryant.a.tarr@dos.nh
