ACTON, Calif. (KABC) -- Residents in the small community of Acton are being asked to either evacuate or shelter in place as a brush fire in the area has grown over 200 acres.

The so-called Hawk Fire erupted Thursday afternoon near the end of Via Famero Drive and Red Rover Mine Road. Acton is about 26 miles northeast of Santa Clarita.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is reportedly working to tell residents in the area to either evacuate or shelter in place.

As of Thursday afternoon, the fire was moving uphill where there are a few radio towers in the area. AIR7 captured firefighters focusing on that spot when conducting water drops.

This is a developing story. This article will continue to be updated as more information becomes available.
