(NewsNation) — GE Appliances has announced a plan to invest over $3 billion in its U.S. operations. The initiative aims to shift manufacturing from overseas back to the United States over the next five years and is expected to create 1,000 new jobs.
GE plans to move production of a variety of its products to the U.S. from China and Mexico. The first phase of the plan will expand current manufacturing operations across the south in Kentucky, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina.
Camden, South Carolina, Mayor Vincent Sheheen told "NewsNation Now" on Thursday that he is "always thrilled when we have manufacturing jobs come to our community."
