NEW ORLEANS — An overnight murder Thursday in a tourist zone in the Marigny neighborhood of New Orleans was alarming. It was 3:24 a.m. when police responded to a fatal shooting at the corner of Frenchmen and Decatur streets.
The homicide was the fifth so far this week in New Orleans, making the week one of the most violent so far this year. Two of the three shooting cases were double homicides.
Despite the bad week, statistics show that overall crime for the year remains down from 2024, and that's on top of double-digit decreases last year.
