Midfield will hold its municipal election on Aug. 26 to determine who of the three mayoral and six council candidates will represent the city.

Mayor Gary Richardson, the city’s first Black mayor who has held the seat since 2004, is running for re-election against Terry Adams, the current Place 1 councilor, and Jimmie Robinson, a political newcomer.

Richardson is amongst a a group of Jefferson County mayors who feuded over the appointment of a new board member to what was then known as the Birmingham Water Works , accusing other members of being unfair.

That feud became moot when the state legislature took control of the water works.

In the city council race, Incumbents Janice Anderson, Place 4, and Velma Johnson, Place 5, ran unopposed and have already been certified into the seats
