After a three-year hiatus, the BMW Championship returned to a revamped Caves Valley Golf Club in Owings Mills, with golfers competing for a spot in the top 30 of the FedEx Cup standings and a berth in next week’s Tour Championship in Atlanta.
Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre put himself in good position to earn a trip.
Thursday’s round was delayed more than two hours by rain but ended with MacIntyre atop the leaderboard at 8-under-par 62.
“The last six holes are probably as good as I’ve ever put in a stretch of holes.” he said. “Just so consistent.”
After a bogey on the 12th hole, MacIntyre closed with six straight birdies, finishing three shots ahead of England’s Tommy Fleetwood.
