Monrovia city officials say a man was hit and killed by a car Thursday morning after fleeing federal immigration agents at a local Home Depot.
Monrovia City Manager Dylan Feik said in a statement posted to the city's website that the man was killed shortly after Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrived at a Home Depot on Mountain Avenue just before 10 a.m.
Department of Homeland Security officials, in a statement to LAist, said there was no connection to "operations in the area."
"This individual was not being pursued by any DHS law enforcement. We do not know their legal status. We were not aware of this incident or notified by California Highway Patrol until hours after operations in the area had concluded," the statements said.
