Government needs to stem the loss of manufacturing jobs in Northern Ontario, says the union representing Wonderbrands workers in Sudbury about to be laid off.
Calling it “a major blow” to Northern Ontario’s food manufacturing sector, United Food & Commercial Workers says Wonderbrands will end sliced bread production at its Sudbury facility on Lorne Street.
The decision will see about 50 people lose their jobs, including all part-time positions and several full-time roles at the facility. The affected unionized employees are represented by Local 175 of the United Food & Commercial Workers (UFCW).
