MIAMI, Fla. (WJW) - Amazon founder and multi-billionaire Jeff Bezos is mourning the loss of his mother, Jackie Bezos, who died after a long battle with dementia.

The 78-year-old philanthropist died peacefully at her Miami home on Thursday, according to a statement from the Bezos Family Foundation.

She died surrounded by loved ones -- including her children, grandchildren and husband Miguel Bezos -- after a years-long battle with Lewy body dementia, Jeff Bezos said in a social media post.

"She always gave so much more than she ever asked for," the businessman wrote on Instagram. "We were so lucky to be in her life. I hold her safe in my heart forever ... I love you, mom."
