FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- Nearly two years later, a Fresno family is getting closure following the death of their loved one, who died in a fire in April of 2023.

With deep breaths and tears, Kim Bennett read through her impact statement, reflecting on the pain she's felt since losing her brother.

"He will never get to enjoy my grandkids or look forward to his. He will never make memories with his son," said Eric Bennett's sister.

Eric Bennett, 59 years old at the time, was unhoused and using a culvert for shelter when Felicia Quiroz set it on fire.

Investigators say Code Enforcement surveillance cameras captured the moment Quiroz used a lighter to start the fire and determined it was arson.

In court Thursday morning, the judge sentenced Quiroz to 15 years to life.
