FALMOUTH, Mass. (WPRI) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health is warning beachgoers not to go into the water with open wounds after someone contracted a rare infection off the coast of Cape Cod.
The Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment announced Tuesday on social media that someone who recently went swimming at Old Silver Beach in Falmouth contracted vibriosis after entering the water with an open wound.
The swimmer was only identified as an "older individual" and their current condition is unknown.
There is no advisory or closure in effect for Old Silver Beach at this time.
"The Falmouth Health Department is sharing information to help residents and visitors make informed choices about their health and safety," the Barnstable County Department of Health and
