Leaders across the state say kids killing other kids has become an epidemic in New Mexico.
Data obtained by Target 7 shows that New Mexico is one of the deadliest states for juveniles in the country. While juvenile crime is down overall, murders committed by kids have risen in recent years, also contributing to the rise in young victims.
Homicide is often the first crime a juvenile is charged with; some crimes are committed with firearms that are obtained through social media.
Some say major changes to state laws are needed. Changes that make sure children are held accountable and are rehabilitated. Others disagree.
