CONNECTICUT, USA — Top Connecticut officials issued a warning to local families and students to be aware of potential scams as they begin back-to-school shopping, especially online.

In a state release Thursday, Gov. Ned Lamont said consumers should always be mindful any time they shop and wary of criminals trying to take advantage of them, particularly during the busy season of back-to-school shopping.

“Connecticut offers many protections for consumers, and we encourage everyone to know your rights and protect yourselves,” Lamont said.

Bryan Cafferelli, commissioner of the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, added that August creates a “shopping frenzy” for back-to-school supplies, ranging from elementary school backpacks to college textbooks and dorm necessities.
