DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Derrick Vincent Weatherly has been sentenced in the 2022 overdose death of a Duluth man.
Judge Jill Eichenwald sentenced 44-year-old Derrick Weatherly of Superior to 86 months in prison Thursday for the death of Christopher Sauve of Duluth.
The sentencing comes months after Weatherly pleaded guilty to Third-Degree Murder during a hearing on June 17, 2025.
Court documents say on Aug. 31, 2022, law enforcement officers responded to a fatal overdose on Basswood Avenue in Duluth. The autopsy revealed that Sauve’s death was caused by fentanyl toxicity.
An investigation by Duluth Police and the Lake Superior Violent Offender Task Force revealed that Weatherly sold the drugs to Sauve which ultimately caused his death.
