INDEPENDENCE, Mo. —
Independence Police Chief Adam Dustman is stepping down to take another position in the city.
Two sources, who asked to remain anonymous, confirmed to KMBC that Dustman sent an email Thursday night announcing his departure as chief. Advertisement
Sources also confirm there is a scheduled vote of no confidence from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday with the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 1 in Independence.
The move comes weeks after Dustman was placed on leave .
“I have decided to take some time off to work on myself and my boys and focus on being the best version of myself and the best dad I can be,” Dustman said in a note in May to members of the department .
