JEFFERSON PARISH, La. — A multimillion-dollar resurfacing project is causing traffic jams on Metairie Road.

“It’s very inconvenient for carpool,” one woman said.

With classes back in session, Jefferson Parish Councilmember Hans Liljeberg said the traffic jams are becoming a problem.

“We had an issue yesterday with St. Catherine. They had blocked southbound Bonnabel right in the middle of school pickup, which is a big problem,” Liljeberg said.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development says the project is being done in sections. Crews are resurfacing the stretch of Metairie Road from the Orleans Parish line to Airline Highway.

“It’s a very meticulous project to put this asphalt down on the roadway,” DOTD spokesperson Scott Boyle said.
