WAPELLO, Iowa (KWQC) - When Iowa football takes the field on Nov. 8th against Oregon, Harper Atkinson from Wapello will be alongside them as a Kid Captain.

Every year the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital and the Iowa Hawkeyes partner up with a kid captain program that honors pediatric patients.

“I love the Hawks,” said Atkinson. “It’s pretty special like you get to do all this and just have fun.”

Her mom, Miranda Atkinson says the whole family was excited when they heard the news.

“I mean, you spend your days just trying to kind of navigate the chaos,” said Miranda Atkinson. “I guess it’s kind of just a daily chaos, but you learn to live in it, but then to have her be a kid captain is just something that’s positive and exciting. Still has to do with her medical but l
