Kenny Wayne Shepherd is eager to share the music he has created alongside 91-year-old blues legend Bobby Rush.
The pair released “Young Fashioned Ways” in March and are on a co-headlining tour that will stop at Sweetwater Performance Pavilion on Thursday. Combining Shepherd’s contemporary approach to blues with Rush’s traditional stylings, the album features five originals co-written by Shepherd and Rush, four reimagined Rush songs and a rework of Muddy Waters’ “Young Fashioned Ways” retitled “Young Ways.”
Shepherd, 48, is grateful for the rare opportunity to work with a traditional bluesman like Rush, but he says he isn’t scratching names off a list of dream collaborations.
