Part Elvis Presley, part Amy Winehouse, pint-sized country-trap singer Jessie Murph brought a whole lot of boisterous pop energy and Southern-fried charm to a packed Fillmore Detroit on Thursday, her second of two sold-out shows at the venue this week.
Murph is the 20-year-old Alabaman who just scored a Top 10 debut with her second album, "Sex Hysteria." It's led by "Blue Strips," an unruly revenge anthem about strip clubs, $100 bills and damn mansions in Malibu that perfectly encapsulates Murph's mix of hip-hop, country, modern pop and throwback '60s girl group aesthetics. And also her penchant for the F-word, which she casually tosses out a reported 36 times on "Sex Hysteria."
