DULUTH — Jesse Bull's round of 2-under 69 paced the field in the qualifying round of the 100th Northland Invitational on Thursday at Northland Country Club.
Bull, of Hopkins, is the 2014 Minnesota Golf Association State Amateur champion and plays out of The Club at Golden Valley. His round on Thursday featured four birdies and two bogeys. Making the turn at 2-under after birdies at holes 3, 6 and 9 with a bogey in between at the long par-3 eighth, Bull briefly got to 3-under after birdieing the par-5 11th, but threw in a bogey at 16.
Jason Pendleton, a Superior native who plays out of Olympic Hills Golf Club in Eden Prairie, was the only other player to break par on Thursday. He notched an eagle-2 on the 313-yard second hole, then followed it up with a birdie on No. 3. A bogey-6 on No. 4
