SYLACAUGA, Ala. ( WBRC ) - Tykeisha Riggins is living through what she calls the most painful chapter of her life — burying her firstborn child.

Her son, 17-year-old D’Marcus Riggins - a B.B. Comer High School senior, was shot and killed last Friday night in Sylacauga’s Crestline Avenue area near Drew Court. Police say he had been playing basketball with friends when he ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“This one right here takes a different part of my heart,” Riggins said.

She had D’Marcus when she was just 19 years old. Now, at 38, she’s preparing to say goodbye.

“That was his smile,” she said, remembering the grin that could light up any room — a smile she saw one final time before he left home that night.
