A parent was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement while they were waiting to pick up their child from Linda Vista Elementary School on Thursday afternoon, the San Diego Unified School District confirmed.
Multiple families, not including students, witnessed the incident that occurred off campus around 3:10 p.m., Linda Vista Elementary Principal Miriam Atlas said in a letter to parents.
"We have been working with our school agencies including the San Diego Unified Police Department, Office of the Superintendent, and Youth Services to ensure that the impacted family has the resources they need during this difficult time," Atlas wrote in the letter.
The principal said that ICE cannot enter campus without a proper warrant and that the school's administration has reminded its staff
