President Donald Trump did not like the latest numbers of the nonpartisan Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), so he fired the agency’s head. Obviously seeking someone who will produce numbers more to his liking, he has nominated E.J. Antoni from the Heritage Foundation as her replacement. Economists on both the left and right have criticized the pick, (e.g., an economist at the conservative American Enterprise Institute labeled Antoni as “utterly unqualified and as partisan as it gets.”)
