NEW LONDON, Ohio — A tornado touched down early Wednesday morning in Huron County, uprooting a large tree that landed on a home.

The National Weather Service says the tornado occurred just after 2 a.m. in New London, which is about 60 miles southwest of Cleveland.

The tornado stayed set down by the New London Recreation Area and remained on the ground for only about one minute, covering one-third of a mile with a maximum width of 50 yards. It generated maximum winds of 90 mph, making it an EF1 on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

The tornado blew over fencing at the recreation area before continuing northwest. It snapped one large tree, then uprooted another in a residential area, causing it to land on a home and damaging the roof.

There were no injuries reported.
