Celine Song’s Materialists leads this weekend’s new films at the UK-Ireland box office, opening via Sony in 687 cinemas having held previews from Wednesday in 593.

The A24 production sees Dakota Johnson as a New York City matchmaker who finds herself embroiled in a love triangle between her perfect match and ex-boyfriend. Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans star alongside Johnson.

Song’s Oscar-nominated Past Lives (2023), which premiered at Sundance, opened to £359,973 and grossed a total of £3.1m.

Universal is starting action comedy Nobody 2 , starring Bob Odenkirk as ageing dad Hutch Mansell, a former assassin who is once again pulled back into his tumultuous past. Indonesian filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto directs. First film Nobody opened to £376,067, grossing a total of £1.4m in 2021.
