EAST GRAND FORKS — East Grand Forks received 149 applicants during its cannabis business registration application window.
Among the 149 is Canna Corners, a low-dose cannabinoid business founded by John Reitmeier and Casey Hammer, who say they are the sole local business vying for one of two cannabis retailer registrations in the city.
After the application window closed Aug. 6, the city will now hold a local registration lottery to determine which applicants will receive registrations. The city will award two: one for a downtown location and another in the highway commercial district. Canna Corners is concerned the lottery will dismiss a local applicant that's already entrenched in the community.
“I thought that (number of applicants) was kind of extreme. We are the only local business
