SALT LAKE CITY — The University of Utah has confirmed the death of 22-year-old Drew Youngquist. He was reportedly working as a guide at Perisher Ski Resort in Australia, when he died after hitting a padded pole.

Local news outlets report he died on the scene, despite efforts from first responders.

Youngquist was working at the resort for the winter season and according to his LinkedIn profile, was taking part in an outdoor education program called Action Learning Initiatives .

The winter season in Australia stretches from June to October, with the peak time for skiing in July and August.
