The 3-year-old girl found dead inside her mother’s car outside a convenience store in Milford, Maine, on Saturday had been left there for more than 14 hours with the windows up, court records show.

Video footage shows the girl’s mother, Kelly Brown, 40, of Havertown, Pa., leaving the SUV shortly before 6 a.m., according to an affidavit by State Police. She didn’t return until about 8:30 p.m., after emergency responders had already arrived.

“[Her] body was resting, face down, on the driver’s side seat, very close to the driver’s side door,” the affidavit stated. “Her upper torso was resting on the seat cushion, and her knees were resting on the driver’s side floor.”

The body of a small dog was found on the floorboard, its head resting on the girl’s right foot, police said.
