In an audacious theft, a Tennessee man and his partner bought $160,000 in jewelry from a shop in Downtown Crossing in April with fake bills that had “In Prop We Trust” written on them, the Suffolk District Attorney’s office said.
The two men later gloated about the crime on social media, prosecutors said, with one posting a picture of a stolen watch captioned: “We made history bro.”
Devin Johnson, 20, of Cordova, Tenn., pleaded not guilty in Boston Municipal Court on July 22 to one count of larceny over $1,200 and was released on personal recognizance, court documents show.
His attorney could not be reached for comment.
Johnson’s partner has not been arraigned, prosecutors said.
