Folks who've gotten to know the Surkont family since they moved to town are well aware of its ties to baseball, patriarch Keith being a former star pitcher at Bishop Hendricken High School who was later drafted and played in the minors.

But the next generation of the clan appears to be headed on a different path, in a sport for which the feet are the main instrument, though its one very important position requires the use of the hands and the body similar to a spot on the diamond.

Twelve-year-old Kyle Surkont recently earned the distinction of being selected to play in the New England Revolution's youth academy where he'll be a goalie in the Major League Soccer organization's in-house developmental program. Kyle just began his first season in the academy, which plays in the
