MADISON (WKOW) -- The arts foster mental health, social connection and life skills for all ages.
Mike Leckrone knows the impact first hand.
He spent 50 years directing the UW Marching Band and now in retirement, he's working to expand access to the arts for underserved communities.
He launched the Leckrone Arts Fund, in partnership with Community Organizations Promoting Arts, or COPA.
Anchor Amber Noggle sat down with him for an exclusive interview on the mission.
"What's important to me is to be able to find a place where I can pass that love and that interest that I had on to the next generation or the next group of people," Leckrone said.
